Student Leadership

School Houses

On enrolment, pupils will be placed in one of four school houses -

  • Kowhai – gold
  • Pohutukawa – red
  • Kauri – green
  • Koromiko – blue

The house system is to encourage interaction between senior, middle and junior pupils and provides a platform for leadership skills to develop in our Year 6 pupils as they take up "house captain" roles. Families are grouped in the same houses.

In the spirit of House competition, there is a series of events planned between the houses, including athletics, cross country, house sports day and a classroom competition.

Children can earn points for their house for a wide range of activities including:

returning newsletter slips (making an extra effort)
assisting each other, teachers, parent helpers (demonstrating consideration)
being well mannered and maintaining self control
    exhibiting house “spirit” (co-operation, reliability)
caring for class / school environment

Student Council

Year 6 students are selected as the Student Council at the beginning of Term 1 and again in Term 3.

They meet with the principal on Friday mornings to discuss happenings around the school and plan events that can be lead by the children such as:

  • mufti days
  • tabloid sports days
  • Caritas appeals (Catholic children helping other children)
  • reading to Junior children (Tuesday Tales in the Library)

Friendship Bus Monitors

The ‘Friendship Bus’ is where children who are feeling lonely in the playground can go for some supported play.

Year 5 students are trained as friendship bus monitors and are rostered on duty.
