The Model of Pedagogy at St. Leo’s Catholic School
At St Leo’s Catholic School we deliver the New Zealand Curriculum.
All teaching and learning is couched within the Special Catholic Character and Mercy Charism of the school.
In 2009 we have developed our own unique school curriculum document that outlines our vision for St. Leo’s Learners and our model of inquiry learning.
St. Leo’s Catholic School uses a differentiated curriculum model built upon:
• a framework of “Learning to Learn,”
• building knowledge identified for local and community needs
• differentiating student learning outcomes
• teacher and/or student initiated learning
This differentiated curriculum model focuses on
• the complexities of student learning outcomes through a common language of learning
• the coding of learning experiences against the Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO ) Taxonomy.
• aligning with the New Zealand Curriculum vision of students who will be confident; connected; actively involved; life-long learners.
This differentiated curriculum also:
• embraces the key dimensions of the Reggio Emilia Approach.
• prepares students for living in a rapidly changing world
• helps students to learn how to think like a novice or problem solve like an expert within a field of knowledge
