Catholic Character

Mercy Charism

St Leo’s Catholic School was founded by the Mercy Sisters in 1897.  To the present day it continues to have a strong association with the Sisters and the charism of the School, is founded on the Mercy Values.  We seek to instil these values in our students and actively uphold them in the every day life of the school.

Special Catholic Character and Enrolment

On enrolment, Parents sign that they agree to support the Special Character of the school and that they will uphold and support the policies adopted by the B.O.T.   Children at St Leo’s have the good name of the school in their keeping at all times and it is expected that they set and maintain a high standard of behaviour both inside and outside of the School, always acting in the Spirit of St Leo’s. The details on Special Character is available in the Parent Handbook in the enrolment package.

Liturgy

Liturgy part of the fabric of every day life at St Leo’s.  Weekday liturgy is held each Friday at 9.00am in the Hall and we welcome parents and families to join with us.  This liturgy lasts for about thirty minutes and classes take turn about at leading the liturgy.  We frequently have a liturgy to celebrate a special event and welcome families to join with us for this.

Mass

Once a term a School/Parish mass is held.  On these occasions we join with the parish at 9  o’clock Mass on a Sunday morning to celebrate Eucharist.  It is expected that all students attend.  If for any reason this is not possible then a note is required. Parish School Mass is regarded as an integral part of attending St Leo’s Catholic School and belonging to our school community.  It always provides us with great joy to see families attending Mass with their children on these occasions.

Sacramental Programme

Students at St Leo’s participate in the Parish based Sacramental Programme.  Parents are advised by the School, with regard to starting dates, and the school fully supports this programme.
